Veterans Burial Flags

A United States flag is furnished at no cost to honor a veteran's service.

Who Receives the Flag

The flag is presented to the next of kin. If no next of kin can be found, it may be given to a close friend who requests it. Only one flag is issued per veteran.

How It Is Used

The flag drapes the casket with the union at the head and over the left shoulder. For a cremation, the flag may be folded and displayed beside the urn.

The Folding and Presentation

At the conclusion of the committal, the honor guard folds the flag into the traditional triangle and presents it to the family with the words of gratitude from a grateful nation.

How We Help

We complete VA Form 27-2008 and obtain the flag before the service, and we request the military honor guard on your behalf. Flag cases are available for display in the home.
